The duo of gentle giants are back, Maizy and Caleb are featured in a blog written for the Dog Breed section of the Examiner. Blogger Koshie Lamptey, has written a breed profile on Newfoundlands. She gives a great snapshot of what a Newfie is all about and what it’s like to own one. Newfoundlands aren’t dogs that you see very frequently, at least not in this area.

Our Newfies recognized again…
June 3, 2009Our not-so-traditional store greeters…
March 18, 2009For those of you who have visited our store within the last three years, I’m sure you’ve met our wonderful (and furry) greeters. If not, it’s definitely worth a visit. Caleb, 3, who is the black male and Maizy, 20 months, the bronze female are both Newfies and come to work everyday. They are half brother and sister, sharing the same fathers, but different mothers. They really are a pleasure to have around the shop. Caleb and Maizy love people and the constant attention. They hangout behind the counters and get very eager to say hello when someone rings the bell. Occasionally, they’ll play around with each other or toys and chew on their bones; but most of the time they lounge around and sleep…imitating breathing carpets.
Between the two of them, they’re 250-plus-pounds of pure Newfie. They do take up a good amount of space, especially when they’re stretched out together. Every now and then we get tripped, but you just have to learn how to maneuver around them. They also ride to work in the back of a little Honda Civic, it is quite a sight. Caleb and Maizy really are an entertaining duo. In January, they were featured in a little blurb in Baltimore Magazine about dogs that come to work with their owners. Stop by some time to say hi, they love the attention…believe me. Click here for the article.
